War Dogs

18:49

Director: Todd Phillips
Starring: Jonah Hill, Miles Teller, Bradley Cooper

After a pretty casual Saturday, Rhys and i decided to get Vietnamese for dinner - so obsessed with Pho at the moment! We ate really early because i was starving then came home and sat down to watch War Dogs featuring some cheeky iced tea.

Jonah Hill MUST of been made to put on a shit load of weight for this role because he is gigantic. Absolutely gigantic. I feel like the poor soul just had to lose weight for Wolf of Wall Street and True Story!

Based on the true story of two young men, David Packouz (Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Hill), who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America's allies in Afghanistan during the height of the Bush administration's wars. The men sell firearms for a living which seems like it should be illegal but isn't.

Hill's performance is amazing, you can tell what his character is thinking when his eyes go cloudy and when he does his squeaky hilarious laugh!

It did go on for about 2.5 hours, at one point i did think it was going to end when it had an hour left however it still kept us captivated, recommended !

Nerve

18:38

Director: Henry Joost
Starring: Emma Roberts, Dave Franco, Emily Meade, Juliette Lewis

Emma and Dave are so magical on screen together! EEEPPPP!

Nerve is about an online game where people pay to watch 'players' do dares for money. Dares can include stealing something, kissing a stranger, flashing the entire school etc etc. Vee (Roberts) is a little lost at school and is extremely shy compared to best friend Sydney (Meade) who plays Nerve and gets a whole new following becoming somewhat Nerve 'famous'. Vee decides one night so take a chance and try Nerve to prove to everyone she can live life on the edge. As she does she gets more and more involved and the Nerve watchers become obsessed with her and the dares get more and more serious - it becomes a little bit of a headache with an extremely dramatic ending!

I love how Dave Franco plays a more serious role in this compared to his usual 'funny girl' scene. His acting is getting better and better catching up to his famous brother.

Nerve kept us on our seats and wowed us till the end, i would recommend watching! i just love anything Emma is in, at the moment i am watching the second season of Scream Queens and she is just so amazing in it - stay tuned for that review :)

Mr Church

18:29

Director: Bruce Beresford
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Britt Robertson, Natascha McElhone, Xavier Samuel, Lucy Fry

Firstly, love Eddie in movies, don't love his actions in real life haha. This is Eddie Murphy's first movie in three years! Three years! i basically grew up with him in my favourite films. Mr Church is a tremendous come back for him.

Mr Church (Murphy) tells the story of a unique friendship that develops when a little girl, Charlotte (Robertson) and her dying mother (McElhone) retain the services of a talented cook named Henry Church. What begins as a six month arrangement instead spans into fifteen years and creates a family bond that lasts forever.

Mr Church has very mixed reviews with people saying that Eddie's performance is average, i completely disagree. I love the character he plays and think he plays it well, the perfect movie for a come back. It also has a little Aussie in it with Xavier Samuel starring as a main character.

Mr Church is a tear jerker so full warning ahead!

Before The Flood

18:16

Director: Fisher Stevens
Starring: Leonardo Dicaprio

I have been dying to see this documentary! One because i obviously love leo and two i am attempting to go full vegetarian. At the moment i only eat chicken so i feel like i am still saving the planet somehow.

Before the flood takes a look at how climate change affects our environment and what society can do to prevent the demise of endangered species, ecosystems and native communities across the globe.

It goes into how some people don't believe in climate change even though the proof and facts are right before our eyes!

I also found this extremely interesting as i did a Sustainability unit when studying HR and i loved it!

If you haven't seen Cowspiracy, Forks over Knives, Vegucated, Earthlings I encourage you do, as even going 'Meat Free Monday' can help save the planet. Leo being a vegetarian himself is amazing and shows how passionate he is about climate change!

Certainly an eye opener!

Into the Forest

15:26

Director: Patricia Rozema
Starring: Ellen Page, Evan Rachel Wood, Max Minghella

I didn't end up going into work last Monday, i've been having a lot of issues with my back since my car accident so that day i was bed ridden. Time to catch up on some movies as that was literally all i could do.

I had been meaning to watch Into The Forest for ages, it came out in 2015. Evan Rachel Wood drew me to it to be honest, as she hasn't been in many films lately. She is one of my favourites ever since her performances in Thirteen and Running With Scissors, i'm a little obsessed. Also a fan of Ellen Page of corse!

From the trailer and description the only thing you know about this film is that a family of a dad and his two daughters live in the forest. A massive power outage happens and the people are forced to live off what supplies that have, the power outage also sends people a little crazy and they need to survive on their own in their isolated home.

I must admit i expected more from the story. I feel i was waiting for something better to happen and nothing really did. The trailer made it appear quite scary, I didn't know if it was an alien thing or a supernatural thing but again sort of ended with a dead end. I can't really go into anything else as it will cause spoilers but I wouldn't be in any rush to watch.

The only good thing is the acting, it still kept me in love with Evan which i was so happy with.

Into The Forest gets 2 stars!

Green Room

15:17

Director: Jeremy Saulnier
Starring: Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Mark Webber, Sit Patrick Stewart

Rhys and I have been trying to watch a movie a night. We always eat early because when we get home from work we are both starving, if start cooking dinner straight away it stops us from snacking on naughty treats.

I was so excited to watch Green Room, one because I am a massive fan of Anton Yelchin (this was his last film due to his sudden passing) and Imogen Poots - this being their second film together since Fright Night also. I didn't even realise Sir Patrick Stewart was in this film, I feel this news was very hidden as he plays a very different character to his norm.

It begins with a punk rock band called 'The Ain't Rights' who go on an unsuccessful tour and randomly end up with a gig at an isolated, run-down club deep in the woods. After a set that the listeners didn't really seem to get into, they go backstage and suddenly become witnesses to a murder that they were not meant to see. Now trapped backstage, they must face off against the club's owner, Darcy (Stewart), a man who will do anything to protect the secrets of his criminal enterprise. Darcy and his henchmen think getting rid of the 'unpopular' band members will be easy, however The Ain't Rights prove themselves to be much more cunning and smart that anyone expected, setting the stage for the ultimate life or death showdown.

Green Room literally kept us on the edge of our seats, i couldn't stop watching so intrigued to find out what happens next! It was twisted, intense and emotional! The entire cast make the movie worth watching with incredible acting. Stewart is unforgettable, he even said after reading the script he locked his whole house, put on his alarm and poured a scotch, he couldn't turn the role down it terrified him.

Green Room gets 5 stars!!
