King Cobra

22:05

Director: Justin Kelly
Starring: Christian Slater, James Franco, Keegan Allen, Garrett Clayton

I am a huge fan of movies that are inspired by true events, just not the scary ones because that actually freaks the flip out of me.

When I heard of King Cobra I was intrigued, after watching similar old school porn movies like 'Lovelace' and just recently the watching documentary 'Hot Girls Wanted' as it focuses on the gay porn industry. Also, I wanted to see Keegan Allen play a different character than Toby from Pretty Little Liars and am a huge fan of Franco's work more so after reading his book "Palo Alto'.

King Cobra is based on the early rise of straight-out-of-high-school gay porn wannabe Sean Lockhart who soon renames himself as Brent Corrigan (Clayton). Brent signs up with producer Stephen who helps start his career and becomes gay porn famous. After Stephen becomes a little too controlling Brent decides he would be better off as a free agent. The Viper Boyz aka Harlow (Keegan) and Joe (Franco) are a strapped for cash, gay porn producer couple with a toxic relationship who aim to cash in with Brent by any mean possible.

The movie is based on the book Cobra Killer: Gay Porn, Murder and the Manhunt to bring the Killers to Justice. A little warning the movie is rated R 18+ for obvious reasons ;)

The Girl On The Train

21:38

Director: Tate Taylor
Staring: Emily Blunt, Justin Theroux, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Luke Evans

Wow, I have not blogged in forever! I want to let you all know I am now fully committed and have made an Instagram page!

Now, I always like to read the book before I see the movie. I recently went to England for 2 weeks and my cousin lent me her book of 'The Girl on the Train', it also helped that the audio book was on the in-flight entertainment!! What an amazing book, I literally could not put it down, and as soon as I landed in Perth I was dying to see the film.

I'll start off by saying the book is always better than the film, however this one was VERY good. They changed the story a little, the book is originally set in London when the movie is set in New York, the relationship Rachel (Blunt) has with her housemate is also very different.

The Girl on the Train tells the story of Rachel Watson, an alcoholic divorcee who becomes obsessed with the couple whose house she can see from her train ride everyday. Rachel's ex husband and his new wife and baby also live two doors down from them. After an episode of her heavy drinking she suffers from multiple black outs and struggles to remember lost time, she soon finds herself in the middle of a missing persons investigation.

I promise I won't list any spoilers as this movie has some major twists, it certainly keeps it's viewers on the edge of their seats. I have read the book and I even gasped at a few scenes. It is a must see from me as Emily Blunt's performance is perfection, also I have a slight obsession with Justin Theroux ever since he stared in Charlie's Angels, so mysterious and so dreamy.

Barely Lethal

11:51

Director: Kyle Newman
Starring: Samuel L Jackson, Jaime King, Jessica Alba, Hailee Steinfield, Sophie Turner, Steve O

After my Dry July efforts, my sister in law bought me a golden ticket (a night of allowed drinking) so I could engage in a few beverages for my mid-year work function. So on Friday night, I made my way down the cocktail list enjoying every taste! Saturday morning however was not friendly, I was feeling seedy as Rhys woke up at 6 to play golf! ugghhh! Back to bed for me, but annoyingly I couldn't sleep. So I watched a couple of episodes of Finding Carter (AGAIN) and caught up on Pretty Little Liars, then decided to watch Barely Lethal!

Barely Lethal is the story of a teenage special ops agent (Steinfield) who decides to fake her own death and convert to a normal adolescence by enrolling into a suburban high school as an exchange student. She learns that surviving high school is harder than her assignments taking out bad guys. Megan, (steinfield) does all her relevant research, watches Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You and buys every gossip magazine. Jessica Alba plays bad girl Knox who is so damn dreamy in this role! Her blonde locks and amazing body, gah she is amazing.

The movie was like a classic high school, girl-goes-for-the-wrong-guy-who-is-hot-but-really-loves-her-best-friend-happy-ending-woo movie. It was good to cure my hangover but was fairly average with a fairly average ending.

TV SERIES - Finding Carter

09:56

Creators: Terri Minsky and Emily Silver
Starring: Kathryn Prescott, Cynthia Watros, Alex Saxon, Anna Jacoby-Heron, Jesse Henderson, Zac Pullam

Oh my god, this series is amazing! I've been staying up past my normal bed time trying to cram as many episodes as possible into my night, last night I succeeded in finishing season 2. I honestly felt like I couldn't do anything until I had finished watching, every episode was such a cliff hanger! So yesterday after work, I got straight into bed and left my house a mess and decided to cook a frozen meal instead of the delicious homemade cannelloni I had planned. What is happening to my life?

Finding Carter is about a teenager who finds out she was abducted as a toddler and is returned to her biological parents. She finds out the life she has been living has been a lie and now has to start over with new parents, a twin sister and a younger brother. New parents mean new rules and Carter (Prescott) find them difficult to abide by. The story goes on and on and you think how many bad things can happen to this family!

Finding Carter is the perfect mix of family, love, drama and suspense. You may recognise Carter, Kathryn Prescott as Emily from the English TV series Skins except this time she has an American accent and nails it! When you find out that Carter has a twin sister, I waited for it to be Kathryn Prescott's actual twin sister who also features in Skins, but no sadly it wasn't haha!

I don't know what I am going to do with my life as Season 3 doesn't have a start date yet ahhhhhhhhhhh! Everyone must watch it asap!!! My favourite series at the moment!!!

Paper Towns

10:17

Director: Jake Schreier
Starring: Cara Delevingne, Nat Wolff, Austin Abrams, Justice Smith, Halston Sage

Because I am a Hoyts member I get special discounts and preview screenings of certain movies so Rhys and I saw Paper Towns last night. When we sat down in our seats, Rhys was sure I had conned him into a Disney film with the entire cinema full of 14 year old girls. I have been waiting for this movie to come out for months, dying to see Cara's acting abilities especially after viewing the new Suicide Squad trailer yesterday - I've already watched it about 20 times.

Paper Towns comes from the genius who also wrote The Fault In Our Stars, John Green which also stars Nat Wolff. Quentin (Wolff) falls in love with the girls across the street, Margot (Delevingne) from a young age and together they become partners in crime, until Quentin becomes scared and no longer wants to join in Margot's activities, they soon drift apart. As it is their final year in high school, Quentin is still so in love with Margot but has dreams of becoming a doctor, getting married etc. One night Margot climbs through Quentin's bedroom window and asks for his help in her revenge plot against her now ex-boyfriend. After a night of getting to know each other again, Quentin thinks things regarding their friendship will change to something further in the morning. In the morning Margot goes missing, Quentin soon finds little clues to find Margot's whereabouts and sets out on a road trip with his best friends.

This movie had me in stitches, I was literally laughing out loud, so was Rhys! Cara did very well, she was very surprising with her acting skills and freshly dyed brown hair, she also puts on an American accent and tries a little too hard - I cannot get the way she says 'car' out of my head! Rhys, without really knowing who she is said he couldn't see past her English accent. There was also a tiny cameo from Ansel Elgort who stars in John Green's other film, as soon as he came on the screen, every single 14 year old girl screamed hahaha. Also Halston Sage is sooooooo pretty, ugh.
