TV SERIES - iZombie

14:36

Creators: Diane Ruggiero and Rob Thomas
Starring: Rose McIver, Robert Buckley, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, David Anders

I love iZombie... so much! Up to episode 10 in its first season and it's addictive. When I first saw the trailer I thought, hmm this is weird and I don't like anything zombie but it's fabulous! Starring New Zealand beauty Rose McIver as Liv Moore and the ever so dreamy Robert Buckley as Major (he also plays Kirby in Lipstick Jungle).

Liv Moore is a doctor who has a perfect life with a perfect fiance, Major. Until one night at a boat party a gang of zombies attacks and she wakes up with extremely white skin, white hair and a thirst for brains. She has to lie to her family and pretend that shes going through a mid life crisis and changing her look drastically, this means, sadly, she has to give up Major as she can't risk hurting him. Liv finds her calling working with her new boss Ravi (Kohli) who knows her secret and gives her access to fresh brains - which she eats with extremely hot sauce to get any kind of flavour, her creativity is awesome, think hot hot hot hot Bloody Mary's. However, eating brains has it's side effects like picking up the dead persons personality traits, Liv goes through being a jealous husband, a raging alcoholic and a painter. The brains also give her visions of how the person died and so uses her 'powers' to help the police who just think shes a crazy, hippie, vision, physic albino weirdo. Another side effect Liv faces is something she calls 'full zombie mode' where she cannot control what she does and her eyes go red, killing everyone - mainly bad people though so it's cool. There was a huge cliffhanger last episode and i'm dying for the next! - my favourite series at the mo!

Kingsman: The Secret Service

11:50

Director: Matthew Vaughn
Starring: Colin Firth, Samuel L Jackson, Taron Egerton, Sofia Boutella, Mark Strong, Michael Caine

We watched Kingsman: The Secret Service over two nights, we had such a busy weekend!

It stars newcomer Taron Egerton who plays Eggsy who is a rebellious gangsta with a common English accent whose father was in 'The Kingsman' but died when he was little. The Kingman is a spy organisation who recruits 11 teens who must go through ultra-competitive training to become a part of the team. Samuel L Jackson plays a twisted tech genius named Valentine with an extremely entertaining lisp - and only uses words with 's' and 'th' in them. He has an assistant, Gazelle (Boutella) who has weird dagger feet instead of real feet that she parades on and kills everyone with- so so so strange. Colin Firth plays the Kingsman spy who recruits Eggsy after making an oath to his late father and is totally bad ass! With his cute English accent and good looks, making you feel safe when he speaks haha.

I felt there was a big hype on this film, always on in the movie previews, advertisements everywhere etc. The special effects including killing everyone drastically were absolutely terrible, they were probably made to look super fake but just gave you the wrong feel in the movie. The best parts are when the recruits get to pick puppies - Pugs, German Sheppards, Dobermans, Poodles oh my! and of course Samuel L Jackson's brilliant lisp. There's also a really weird 'asshole' situation at the end of the movie that made me cringe but I'll leave that one with you for when/if you watch it. Hopefully we'll see Taron Egerton in future English movies, would love to see him work with Noel Clarke my favourite Writer and Director who is famous for making movies such as Adulthood, Kidulthood and 4.3.2.1.

Mad Max: Fury Road

11:54

Director: George Miller
Starring: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Holt, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Abbey-Lee Kershaw, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Courtney Eaton, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Meagan Gale

Tuesday night was date night at the movies for us. I've been waiting all year for Mad Max to come out, when I saw how many Aussies starred in it and my favourite actresses, I was so excited!

Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth film from Director George Miller with the other three starring Mel Gibson. Fury Road is set 30 years on (in real life) from Mad Max 3 and is set in the post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland, even though it was filmed in the Namibia desert. The evil Immortan Joe (Keays-Byrne, who also plays the villain in the original Mad Max) now runs this weird cult thing with his gigantic son, actually real life gigantic son, and has complete control over water. Boys are 'War boys' and are zombie like with weird lumps and scars on them. Immortan Joe orders Imperator Furiosa (Theron) to drive a war rig to locate more gas. She soon detours and Joe finds out that she has taken his 5 wives, Splendid (Huntington-Whiteley), Toast (Kravitz), The Dag (Kershaw), Fragile (Eaton) and Capable (Keough) after they begged her to help them escape. Joe is furious and demands the war boys get them back especially as Splendid is carrying his child. Max gets caught up in all of this as he is a free ranger who gets captured by the War Boys but manages to escape. We catches up with Furiosa and together with the wives try to find the 'Green Land' - land that is green I'm guessing. Meagan Gale plays a small part, but a good part! I was also really impressed with Kershaw's acting skills, she basically plays a very odd, very strong Australian accent, funny character. I was also so happy to see that Courtney Eaton comes from Bunbury which is only 3 hours away!

This movie is completely action packed, complete with their own War Boy base player who makes everything way more dramatic. I literally could not take my eyes off the screen and was moving around nervously in my chair, thoroughly annoying Rhys. I had heard that George Miller would consider another movie depending on the success of Fury Road and it has finally been confirmed THERE WILL BE! Hopefully starring the same Aussie babes! The effects were beyond amazing and when I researched it, most of them were the real thing, George Miller wanted lots and lots of colour. Rhys and I saw this in 'Xtreme Screen' at Hoyts which made it even more captivating!

Chappie

14:27

Director - Neill Blomkamp
Starring - Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Yolandi Visser and Ninja (Die Antwoord)

After I had finished cooking up a storm in the kitchen, my favourite chicken pesto pasta mmmm, Rhys and I watched Chappie. Again, I had already seen the trailers thanks to my obsession with IMDB, it got my attention when I saw that Die Antwoord were starring in it! Wooo I love them!!

Chappie is about a young inventor, Deon (Dev Patel) who creates robots to become police officers. There are thousands of robot cops everywhere but they are all programmed to do the same thing, fight crime ra ra ra. Deon's real passion is creating a robot that can feel the same way humans do with real emotion and real feelings. After Deon's request to test his 'emotion feeling robot' program on a broken robot is rejected by his boss, he breaks all the rules, steals it and attempts to take it home. Yolandi and Ninja are gangstas stuck in trouble with a huge ass bad man and try to stop all the robot cops from operating, they try to find their creator to shut them all down. As Deon is leaving his work with the broken robot he is stopped by Die Antwoord and is questioned about stopping the robot cops and his creepy broken robot in the back of his car. Die Antwoord soon take interest in the new robot they think they can turn into a 'killing machine' to help them with their crimes.

Chappie is successfully booted thanks to Deon's program and basically starts out with a baby brain. Deon and Die Antwoord have an agreement where Chappie must stay with them and Deon can visit for training. As Chappie becomes smarter he promises Deon, his maker, that he cannot commit crime or kill anyone and finds out that a promise cannot be broken. For Ninja to turn him into a killing machine he has to lie to him to think he is doing good things for them. I don't want to carry on too much more, I don't want to spoil it!

Chappie is actually one of the best movies I have seen in a long time, I could not stop laughing! It left me wanting to watch it all over again! Highly recommend! The whole soundtrack is Die Antwoord - the best!

The Lazarus Effect

18:06

Director - David Gelb
Starring - Mark Duplass, Olivia Wilde, Sarah Bolger, Evan Peters, Donald Glover

On this horrible and rainy sunday after I finished cleaning the house and watching the football, I sat down on my extremely comfy couch and chose The Lazarus Effect to watch. I had already watched the three trailers they had released on IMDB and couldn't wait to get into it. I'm normally not into sci-fi, sciency films but the fact that this had Olivia Wilde (babe), Evan Peters (also babe) AND CHILDISH GAMBINO (Donald Glover) i had to dedicate time to it.

The Lazarus Effect is about a couple, Doctors Zoe and Frank who have developed this special serum that is potentially going to bring humans back to life - something to do with le brain. They first test it out on a pooch, a cute pooch. I had to turn away at first in case something bad happened to the already dead dog as it upsets me (huge animal lover here) but all was good as they were successful, Rocky the pup is alive! Everyone is super happy with their 'creation' until the dog starts developing scary and destructive behaviours. Soon after, their funds get cut and their work gets shut down, over 4 years of research gone - byebye. Everyone is sad and feeling rebelious as they sneak back into the lab where Zoe gets electrocuted accidentally. Much to everyones disappointment, Frank decided to inject the serum into Zoe to bring her back to life, and it works! surprise, surprise. Zoe comes back basically as the devil and kills everyone including Childish Gambino - NOOOOOOOOO!

As it is classified a horror, I didn't find it that entertaining or scary! It was over quickly and didn't really leave me wanting to do my usual research after it finished. I felt there was a huge lead up to this film and was super disappointed.

Hello!

17:25

My name is Anna, I'm 23 years old from Perth, Western Australia. If you do know me, you will know my passion for films and to some people 'not so great' films. As soon as I have finished watching a movie, I have OCD in where I have to research everything about it, 'who stars in it and what other movies they have starred in/are staring in', 'where it was filmed', 'who directed it' and 'how long it took to film' - I need to know everything about it!

I decided to create this blog after my friend Pat was over last week, we spent a good amount of hours talking about what films we both had watched lately and going through my IMDB watch list discussing what each were about. We were joking around saying I should become a movie critic and I thought 'I SHOULD!' I've always wanted to create a blog and am so excited to document and share all my movie thoughts on here, here goes.
